Sherman, Texas - Trinity's baseball
team opened up a three-game SCAC series at Austin College with a
comeback win in game one of a doubleheader.
Trinity (15-15, 6-6) scored a run in its
final time at bat in the seven-inning contest, scoring an unearned run
on a two-out error by Austin College.
John Paillet had a bunt single with two
outs in the inning, then stole second base to get into scoring position.
Kevin Jackson hit a ground ball to the right side of the infield, and on
the error, Paillet was able to come around and break a 1-1 tie.
The Tigers tied the game in the fourth with
Jeff Claydon's RBI single that scored Stosh Hoover with one out.
Hoover reached with a leadoff single, then stole second base and moved
to third on another error by Austin College.
Austin College took the early lead with a
leadoff homer in the bottom of the second inning off of Trinity starter
Evan Bronson. That would be the only run allowed by Bronson,
though, who struck out nine in the complete-game victory. He
allowed just one run on six hits through seven innings, striking out two
of the final three batters he faced in the seventh inning.
Hoover was 2-4 in the game, while Evan
Jones also had two hits - including a double. For Austin College,
Bennett Herrick also had two hits and Bobby Schleizer's solo homer gave
Austin College its only run of the game.
Trinity and Austin will conclude the
doubleheader this afternoon, then will face off for the final time this
season on Sunday afternoon. The teams split a two-game series in
San Antonio earlier this year. |
