Conway, Arkansas - The Hendrix College
Warriors edged the Tigers 5-4 Saturday, in the first game of a SCAC
doubleheader at Warrior Field.
Warriors third baseman Kyle Raskin doubled
to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning for the game-winning
RBI. The top half of the doubleheader was scheduled to go seven innings.
Trinity dropped to 13-14 and 4-5 SCAC, and
Hendrix now stands at 11-17 and 6-7 SCAC.
The Tigers struck first with two runs in
the top of the first inning. Senior second baseman Jeff Claydon cracked
a two RBI single to left field, scoring senior shortstop Stosh Hoover
and sophomore left fielder/second baseman Kevin Jackson. Claydon batted
2-3 with two RBIs.
Hendrix center fielder Daniel Ward hit a
solo home run in the third inning, followed by a two-run homer by first
baseman Jeff Forgerson, giving the Warriors a 3-2 lead. Forgerson, who
racked up his seventh home run of the season, went 2-4 with two RBIs and
two runs. The Warriors increased the lead to 4-2 as shortstop Matt
Gaglio scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning.
Trinity rallied with two runs in the sixth
inning, tying the score at 4-4, as junior first baseman Evan Jones
singled to left field. Sophomore catcher Kyle Felix and junior pinch
runner/left fielder Chris Walden scored. Jones batted 2-4 with two RBIs,
and Felix went 3-4 with a double – his 11th of the season –
and one run. The Tigers had a chance to take the lead in the seventh
inning, but sophomore right fielder Kevin Calbick was thrown out at
home.
Tiger senior left-hander Evan Bronson (3-3)
pitched the full 7 2/3 innings, allowing five earned runs, 10 hits, four
walks and struck out nine batters.
Hendrix right-hander Wheeler Gnat hurled
the final 2 2/3 innings and picked up the win. Gnat (2-1) gave up no
runs, two hits and struck out two players.
The Tigers scored four earned runs, had 10
hits, committed one error and left six players on base. The Warriors had
no errors and stranded seven players. |
