San Antonio - The Tiger baseball
team opened up a two-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series
with a 10-0 loss to Millsaps College on Saturday afternoon.
Trinity (8-12, 3-4) fell behind early in
the game as Millsaps got on the board with a run in the first. A
five-run sixth inning by Millsaps set up the run-rule, which was put
into effect when Trinity failed to score in the bottom of the seventh.
Millsaps went ahead 3-0 with a pair of runs
in the third inning, then scored two unearned runs in the fifth -
leading up to the big sixth inning that finished the scoring.
Michael Panozzo (3-1) took the loss for the
Tigers, giving up seven earned runs - 10 total runs - in six innings,
striking out four batters and giving up 14 hits.
The Tiger offense was held to just four
hits in the game, as Tait Hendrix (4-0) and Boomer Hudson combined for
the shutout. Hendrix gave up no runs on three hits through six
innings, walking five and striking out four.
Kevin Jackson led Trinity with a pair of
hits - including one of two team doubles. Jeff Claydon also had a
double, while John Paillet had the team's only other hit in the game.
Hunter Owen was 2-3 with two runs and four
RBI for Millsaps, while Will Hawkins also drove in a pair of runs.
Jeremy Aliff was 2-5 with three runs scored, while Hayes Brian was 2-3
with two runs scored and one RBI.
Trinity will take on the University of
Notre Dame tonight at Nelson Wolff Stadium, continuing its part in the
Irish Classic. The Tigers and Majors conclude their SCAC series
tomorrow afternoon at Trinity.
