Jackson, Mississippi - The Hendrix
College Warriors edged the Tigers 9-7 in Saturday’s opening game at the
SCAC Championship tournament at Smith-Wills Stadium.
The once-beaten Tigers (23-20) will play
Centre later in the day.
Hendrix took an 8-3 lead after six innings,
with two runs in the first, and six in the sixth inning. The Tigers
responded with two runs in the fourth inning, keyed by an RBI double by
designated hitter Kyle Felix. Trinity added a run in the sixth, on a SAC
fly by second baseman Jeff Claydon.
The Tigers closed the gap with two runs in
the seventh, courtesy of a two-run homer by left fielder Jordan
Pennington. Hendrix added a run in the ninth, and led 9-5. Trinity was
not about to give up, as the Tigers scored two runs in the bottom half
of the inning. This time, a round-tripper came from first baseman Evan
Jones, a two-run shot to right field. But the game ended with two Tigers
left on base.
Jones batted 5-5 with three RBIs and one
run. Felix hit 4-5 with three runs. |
