San Antonio - The Trinity
University Tigers baseball team opened its three-game SCAC series with a
10-0 shutout of the Southwestern University Pirates Friday in a
seven-inning game at E.M. Stevens Field.
The Tigers improved to 17-17 and 8-7 SCAC,
while the Pirates dropped to 15-18 and 8-7 SCAC.
Trinity senior pitcher Evan Bronson went
the distance and upped his record to 5-3. Bronson allowed only three
hits, no runs four walks and fanned three batters.
The Tigers put up three runs in the third
inning, keyed by a solo home run by designated hitter Kyle Felix, his
eighth round-tripper of the season/ Felix batted 4-4, with three RBIs
and scored one run.
Trinity widened the lead with two runs in
the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth. The Tigers scored
10 runs, collected 16 hits, made no errors and left eight players on
base. The Pirates committed two errors and stranded three players.
Tiger first baseman Evan Jones went 3-4
with one RBI and scored two runs, while smacking two doubles, his 12th
of the season. Center fielder John Paillet batted 3-4 with three RBIs
and scored a run, and registered his sixth double of the campaign.
Shortstop Stosh Hoover went 2-4 with an RBI, one run and hit his 11th
double. |
