San Antonio - The Tigers took
both games of Friday's SCAC doubleheader from the Southwestern Pirates
Friday, winning the second game 6-2 at E.M. Stevens Field.
Trinity, which won Friday’s opener 10-0,
improved to 18-17 and 9-7 SCAC. Southwestern now stands at 15-19 and 8-8
SCAC. The two squads will conclude their series Saturday with a single
game at 2 p.m. Trinity leads the season series 3-1.
The Tigers moved into second place in the
SCAC West Division, and hold a half-game edge over third-place
Southwestern. Millsaps (29-4, 13-4 SCAC) is the leader of the division.
As in the first game, the Tigers led the
scoring, with two runs in the third inning. The inning was keyed by
second baseman Jeff Claydon, who cracked an RBI triple to left center.
Catcher Steven Ramos scored on the play.
Trinity produced two runs in the fourth
inning, led by Ramos’ two RBI single up the middle. Trinity took a 5-0
lead as left fielder Jordan Pennington hit his ninth home run of the
season, a solo shot with two outs in the fifth inning. The Tigers added
one more run, in the seventh, and led 6-0.
Southwestern had a rally in the eighth
inning, with two runs.
Tiger pitcher Noah Solomon hurled eight
innings and remained undefeated at 5-0. Solomon allowed seven hits., two
runs, four walks and struck out six batters. He was relieved in the
ninth inning by Mike Panozzo.
Ramos batted 3-4 with two RBIs and scored
one run. Claydon went 2-4 with one RBI and had two runs. Felix was 1-3
with an RBI.
Trinity collected 11 hits, made no errors
and left seven players on base. The Pirates had eight hits, no errors
and stranded six batters. |
