San Antonio - The Tiger baseball
team won its fifth straight game with a 14-6 non-conference victory over
the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs Tuesday night at E.M. Stevens
Field.
Trinity evened its record to 13-13 and
Texas Lutheran now stands at 17-10. The Bulldogs beat the Tigers 7-3 on
Feb. 10 in Seguin. Since 1999, the two teams are now even, with a 9-9
mark in the series.
The Bulldogs struck first and took an early
1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. But the Tigers slowly built up
the lead, with three runs in each of the first and second innings.
Trinity scored two runs in the third, one in the fourth and five in the
seventh to lead 14-1. Texas Lutheran rallied and put up one run in the
eighth inning and scored four in the top of the ninth.
Tiger sophomore right-hander Noah Solomon
was the starter and pitched three innings. Solomon gave up only one hit,
one run (earned), two walks and struck out two batters. Junior
right-hander Eric Binder entered in the fourth inning and hurled five
innings. Binder, who picked up the victory, improved to 1-3. He allowed
one hit, one run (earned), no walks and struck out a batter. The Tiger
pitching staff was effective, as the Bulldogs did not get a hit until
the third inning. Their next hit came in the eighth inning.
Trinity scored 13 earned runs, cracked 16
hits, made two errors and left eight players on base. Texas Lutheran
scored six earned runs, had four hits, one error and left four players
on base.
Tiger junior first baseman Evan Jones hit
4-5, with two RBIs and a double. Senior left fielder Jordan Pennington
batted 3-5 with three RBIs, a double and three runs. Senior shortstop
Stosh Hoover went 1-4 with three RBIs, drew a walk and scored two runs.
Sophomore designated hitter Kyle Felix, who also smacked a double, went
2-5 with an RBI and one run. John Paillet, a sophomore center fielder,
was productive, going 2-3 with an RBI and scoring two runs.
Bulldog catcher Landon Lee batted 1-3 with
one RBI and scored one run, along with hitting a double. Louis Lee was
the starting pitcher and took the loss, in 1 1/3 innings of work. Lee is
now 1-2.
Trinity travels to Conway, Ark., for a
three-game SCAC series Saturday and Sunday with the Hendrix College
Warriors. The Tigers (4-4 SCAC), will play a doubleheader starting at 1
p.m. Saturday and a single game at noon Sunday. |
