San Antonio - The Tigers won their
fourth straight game with a 6-0 non-conference shutout of the University
of Dallas Crusaders Sunday at E.M. Stevens Field.
Trinity, which beat Dallas 7-5 on Saturday,
improved to 12-13. The Crusaders now stand at 12-6-1.
Tiger senior left-hander Evan Bronson
hurled his second consecutive complete game and upped his record to 3-2.
Bronson allowed no runs, five hits, no walks and fanned 12 batters. It
marked the second straight game where he struck out 10 or more hitters.
Bronson took the victory - and had 10 strikeouts - on March 15, as the
Tigers beat the Millsaps College Majors 11-8 in a home SCAC game. He now
has 59 strikeouts to his credit this season, in nine appearances.
Sunday’s game remained scoreless until the
seventh inning, when the Tigers exploded for all six runs. Three of the
runs came from a homer by senior designated hitter Jordan Pennington. In
blasting down the right-field line, Pennington also drove in senior
shortstop Stosh Hoover and sophomore center fielder John Paillet. It
marked Pennington’s seventh home run of the campaign. He batted 3-4 with
three RBIs, scored a run and stole a base. Hoover, who had two stolen
bases, went 1-2 with one run. Paillet batted 1-3.
Before Pennington’s home run, sophomore
left fielder Kevin Jackson singled to center field, for an RBI, as
sophomore catcher Kyle Felix crossed the plate. Jackson hit 1-3 with one
RBI and one run. Felix was 1-4 and scored a run. Senior third baseman
Steven Ramos, who hit 1-3, scored on a wild pitch, as did Jackson.
Dallas senior shortstop Tom Fogerty batted
1-3 with a double. Junior left-hander Gabe Sandersius (2-3) was the
starter and pitched for six innings. He allowed one earned run, five
hits, three walks and struck out six.
The Tigers scored five earned runs,
produced seven hits, committed no errors and left six players on base.
Dallas made two errors and stranded five batters.
Trinity will host Texas Lutheran University
in a non-conference game at 7 p.m. Tuesday. |
