Trinity University Names Chaplain

Rev. Stephen R. NickleJuly 11, 2000  -  Trinity University has named the Rev. Stephen R. Nickle the Bishop Everett H. Jones Chair of Campus Ministry and University Chaplain.  Rev. Nickle was previously chaplain at Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee, and has 13 years experience in campus ministry.  He received his M.Div. from Columbia Theological Seminary and his A.B. from Princeton University.

"Stephen Nickle is an excellent choice for Trinity's campus ministry program because of his ability to relate to students and the diverse constituencies of a university," says Douglas Brackenridge, professor of religion and chair of the chaplain search committee.  "Rev. Nickle has worked extensively with students, faculty, and staff in faith development, helping them to access their rich theological heritage and bring it to bear on the challenges and crises with which they struggle," professor Brackenridge added.

Rev. Nickle will be minister-in-charge of Trinity's Margarite B. Parker Chapel with responsibility for a ministry of worship, preaching, study, fellowship, service outreach, and pastoral and counseling care.  "Ministry in higher education brings me in contact with people during a vibrant, passionate chapter of their lives," says Rev. Nickle, who assumed the position July 1, 2000.

He will also serve as coordinator of all religious organizations on the campus in an effort to assist the organizations in meeting their own needs and goals and to bring a cohesive quality to the religious life of the University.

Trinity University was founded in 1869 by Texas Presbyterians and is related by covenant to the Synod of the Sun of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A).
