Trinity Appoints New Vice
President For Student Affairs

Dr. Gage PaineJuly 31, 2000  -  Trinity University has appointed Dr. Gage Paine as vice president for Student Affairs.  Dr. Paine assumes responsibilities as Trinity's chief campus-life educator on August 16.  Previously she was associate vice president for Student Affairs and Dean of Student Life at Southern Methodist University.

As vice president for Student Affairs, Dr. Paine will be responsible for residential life, student judicial issues, student activities, health, counseling, and career services, the university center, the bookstore, and dining services.  "Dr. Paine's experience and creativity will provide strong leadership in our efforts to maintain and enhance the vibrant living-learning environment at Trinity," said John Brazil, president of Trinity University in announcing the appointment.

"At Trinity there is a genuine concern and caring for students," said Dr. Paine.  "I am excited about the potential for further developing the student affairs program with the staff, and establishing partnerships with faculty and academic administrators to enrich still further the educational experience of our students."

Dr. Paine has been involved in the student affairs field for 20 years and has worked at a wide range of institutions.  Prior to her appointment at SMU, she served as associate Dean of Students at the University of Texas at Austin from 1992 to 1997, and assistant Dean of Students from 1986 to 1992.  She also served as associate Dean of Students and director of Alumni Services at McMurry College.  In addition, she has held adjunct teaching positions serving as a lecturer in the areas of corporate communications, public affairs, educational administration and political science.

She earned the Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin, a doctor of jurisprudence from Texas Tech University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Letters from the University of Oklahoma.
