Trinity University Speech And Drama Department to Present 17th Century Spanish Comedy

September 8, 2000 - Trinity University's Department of Speech and Drama will be presenting Calderón de la Barca's The Phantom Lady as their opening production for the 2000-2001 season.  The Phantom Lady will be performed in the Jane and Arthur Stieren Theater on September 29-30 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, October 1, at 2:30 p.m.; and October 4-7 at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $6 for regular admission; $5 for faculty, staff, and senior citizens; $4 for students; and $3 for groups of 10 or more.

The Phantom Lady, a 17th century Spanish Golden Age comedy, upends cherished values of chivalry, honor, and valor while indulging the stronger pulls of love, lust, and mystery.  An upstanding family with a fine, cosmopolitan home, a distinguished visitor from the provinces, a chance encounter with a mysterious and beautiful lady in a town square, and a hidden, revolving cabinet set the stage for this comedic outing directed by Robert Baker-White, associate professor of speech and drama, with translations by Spanish professor Matthew Stroud.

For more information or to order tickets, please contact the Stieren Theater Box Office at (210) 999-8515.
