Trinity Facts

Trinity University is a highly selective, professionally oriented liberal arts and sciences institution. This residential, primarily undergraduate coeducational university is noted for its superb facilities and undergraduate research opportunities. Through its academic and co-curricular programs, Trinity seeks to develop leaders with high moral and ethical standards. It is a learning community that has charted its course with a steadfast commitment to excellence for over 130 years.

Profile
Trinity offers undergraduate programs with majors in 26 departments. In addition to strength in the liberal arts and sciences, these majors include professional programs in communication, education, business administration, and engineering science. Degrees offered include the bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, and bachelor of music. Two five-year programs lead to a bachelor's degree followed by a master's degree in teaching or accounting. Additionally, Trinity offers master's degrees in school administration, school psychology, and health care administration.

Students
2,581 men and women from 48 states and 21 countries with an average SAT score of 1271 for the Class of 2003. 71% of entering students ranked in the top 20% of their high school class. 20.3% overall minority enrollment.

Faculty
220 full-time faculty, with 99% having doctoral or the highest degrees in their field. Student/faculty ratio is 11:1. Twenty-one endowed distinguished professorships.

Tuition and Financial Aid
$15,264 tuition and fees; $22.5 million expended in financial aid on behalf of Trinity University students ($12 million funded from the University's endowment and annual gifts); $14,978 average need-based financial aid/scholarship award (1998-99).

Campus
On the site of an abandoned rock quarry, Trinity's "skyline" campus encompasses 117-acres and is famous for its red brick buildings, accented by native live oaks, well-kept grounds and sparkling fountains. Set up on a hill, the campus offers a commanding view of historic downtown San Antonio. Sixteen residence halls help foster a tight-knit campus community. The athletic and intramural programs benefit from a seven-acre outdoor recreational area and the William H. Bell Athletic Center.

Library
854,825 volumes plus instructional media services which include a multimedia development center.

Outside the Classroom
In addition to being academically talented, students bring other exceptional talents, interests, abilities and a desire to contribute to the campus community. They are eager to assume leadership roles in more than 100 student organizations and are also known for their sense of social responsibility, evidenced by the large percentage who share their time and talents through Trinity University Voluntary Action Center (TUVAC) and other service-oriented organizations. Other popular student organizations include local sororities and fraternities, diverse special interest clubs, student government organizations and intramurals. Honor societies include Phi Beta Kappa, Blue Key and more than 15 others. Endowed lecture series bring to campus annually such noted personalities as Shimon Peres, Bob Dole, John Updike, Bill Moyers and former prime ministers John Major and Margaret Thatcher. Trinity's chapel program offers worship, counseling, fellowship and service.

Athletics
Trinity University's 18 varsity teams participate in non-scholarship NCAA Division III sports. Trinity claimed its sixth-straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference President's Trophy, which is awarded annually to the conference all-sports champion, during the 1998-99 academic year. During the 1998-99 season, Trinity won 10 of the 18 championships offered by the SCAC. The Tigers captured conference titles in football, volleyball, women's soccer, men's swimming, men's track and field, men's and women's tennis, softball and baseball. The football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's tennis teams were also extended bids to their respective NCAA Championships. Individuals in men's and women's swimming and women's track and field were invited to their sport's NCAA Championships. Trinity also offers a popular intramural program in which 70% of students participate.

Heritage
Founded by Presbyterians in 1869, Trinity's first campus was located in Tehuacana, Texas and was subsequently relocated to Waxahachie, Texas in 1902, to the near west side of San Antonio in 1942, and to its present skyline campus in 1952. Although governed by an independent Board of Trustees, Trinity maintains a covenant relationship to the Presbyterian Church USA.
