Trinity Professor Named To Endowed Chair Of Religion


September 15, 2000 - William O. Walker Jr. has been appointed to the Jennie Farris Railey King Professorship in Religion at Trinity University.

Professor Walker, known for his scholarly research on the New Testament, has been a member of the Trinity faculty since 1962.  He was dean of the Division of Humanities and Arts from 1989-99, before taking a year off to complete work on a book about passages in the letters of St. Paul that he believes were added after the apostle wrote his Biblical contributions.

He was chair of the Religion Department at Trinity from 1980-88 and has served on a variety of University committees.  He is a member of Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas (International Society for New Testament Study,) the American Academy of Religion, and the Society of Biblical Literature.

Professor Walker received his bachelor of arts from Austin College and a ministry degree from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.  He received a masters' of arts from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in religion from Duke University.

The author or editor of nine books, his articles and essays have appeared in Journal of Biblical Literature, New Testament Studies, and The Catholic Biblical Quarterly.
