Briefly describe what you do

I'm in a three year residency training program to be an Internal Medicine physician (primary care physician for adults)

What other jobs have you had?

n/a

What are the key skills, abilities, and personal qualities necessary to succeed in this type of work?

  • Desire to read and learn
  • Care for elderly population

What do you enjoy most about your current position?

Being challenged by patients to enjoy the moment and enjoy talking with them rather than only seeing the tasks of the day (i.e. don't take myself so seriously)

Most important/valuable lesson or activity in college that impacted your career ?

I had roommates and friends who supported me and encouraged me to play, but they let me study/sleep when I needed to. I look back on my college days and am so grateful for how my friends gave me the freedom to study hard but were always there for me.

What advice for someone entering this field?

Getting into medical school is a lot easier if you have some "experience" . . . like research or working as a tech/transporter in a hospital. It's not sufficient to prove your commitment to have good grades and "want to help people."
