Briefly describe what you do |
I'm in a three year residency training program to be an Internal Medicine physician (primary care physician for adults) |
What other jobs have you had? |
n/a |
What are the key skills, abilities, and personal qualities necessary to succeed in this type of work? |
What do you enjoy most about your current position? |
Being challenged by patients to enjoy the moment and enjoy talking with them rather than only seeing the tasks of the day (i.e. don't take myself so seriously) |
Most important/valuable lesson or activity in college that impacted your career ? |
I had roommates and friends who supported me and encouraged me to play, but they let me study/sleep when I needed to. I look back on my college days and am so grateful for how my friends gave me the freedom to study hard but were always there for me. |
What advice for someone entering this field? |
Getting into medical school is a lot easier if you have some "experience" . . . like research or working as a tech/transporter in a hospital. It's not sufficient to prove your commitment to have good grades and "want to help people." |
