Briefly describe what you do |
I work in the public sector performing economic development functions. I am employed by a "4A" corporation created by the City of Allen, Texas, which exists for the purpose of recruiting companies to locate within the corporate limits of the City. |

What other jobs have you had? |
I graduated in 2004 and began work here at the Allen Economic Development Corporation the day after I graduated. I started as an Analyst and have since been promoted to Projects Manager. |

What are the key skills, abilities, and personal qualities necessary to succeed in this type of work? |
Interpersonal skills are a must, as you will have to interact with politicians and citizens regularly. You must be able to defend your use of tax dollars. You also need good writing skills. An ability to work with maps and data is helpful. |

What do you enjoy most about your current position? |
Interacting with company decision makers, brokers, landowners, city officials, etc. All of these individuals have a great deal of experience and insight, and I am able to learn so much from these relationships. |

Most important/valuable lesson or activity in college that impacted your career ? |
Working with Dr. Butler (in the Economics Department) on a real project in the San Antonio community that involved helping a local neighborhood group. |

What advice for someone entering this field? |
Get experience as quickly as you can, as this is very important in entering the field. An internship definitely helps. |
