Currently I am freelance news/entertainment television producer based in Seattle Washington.  I work for a variety of major television networks.

What are the key skills, abilities, and personal qualities necessary to succeed in this type of work?  

 

Solid news judgment, good writing and research skills, ability to organize people and stories in often stressful situations, must be internally driven while also being able to integrate the ideas of others, ability to work long hours, fair-minded, and a strong love of learning.

What do you enjoy most about your current position?  

ability to set my own schedule

Most important/valuable lesson or activity in college that impacted your career

Learned a little about a lot of things.  Wrote regularly.

What advice for someone entering this field?

Try, try and try again.  If you want an easy job this isn't it - you will work harder for less than in any other field I know - it requires a love and determination to work in news.
