Briefly describe what you do
|
I manage a team of program managers who ensure
our development teams get products out the door on time, on scope and
with quality. I also manage a team of technical writers who document
product interactions and how certain products or groups of products
fulfill our strategic initiatives. |
|
What other jobs have you had?
|
Product Manager; Brand Manager; Market
Researcher; Business Intelligence Consultant; Strategist; Business
Development Manager |
|
What are the key skills, abilities, and personal
qualities necessary to succeed in this type of work?
|
flexibility; attention to detail; interest in
learning technical jargon; very strong communication skills; ability
to multitask; ability to manage (people) through significant annual
change; desire to make a difference; desire to continually grow -
personal and professional development |
|
What do you enjoy most about your current
position?
|
My writing team is a brand new group to our
company. We are a bit of an experiment that is bringing significant
value to our field-facing teams and customers. Breaking new ground and
solving a wide variety of customers are the things that keep my job
interesting. |
|
Most important/valuable lesson or activity in
college that impacted your career
|
Group projects are the norm. You will be amazed
at how often you have to work with a group of people to get a task
successfully completed. And how important networking really is. |
|
What advice for someone entering this field?
|
Keep an open mind. Don't expect to start at the
top - and don't expect to be able to build a clear, unchangeable route
to promotions. The technology field changes quarterly - companies
reorganize, and you have to be able to change with it to survive. |
