What other jobs have you had?

  • Technical Director - Yahoo!

  • Broadcast Engineer - Yahoo!

  • Radio Producer - WOAI Radio

What are the key skills, abilities, and personal qualities necessary to succeed in this type of work?

High level of organization, public speaking, technical writing, team management experience, broad technical understanding of software development

What do you enjoy most about your current position?

I have the opportunity to travel as I work on projects worldwide.  I generally have several projects at once - so every day has lots of different things going on.

Most important/valuable lesson or activity in college that impacted your career

Learn to write well.  Its amazing the number of people in business who lack this skill and a well written document or presentation really stands out.

What advice for someone entering this field?

Project management requires a variety of different skills and a broad background.  You need to be able to understand what your technical team is doing, but also to be able to discuss it with non-technical business leaders.  Look for a good general background and good teamwork skills.  Its also worth checking out a certification program either on general project management or on software development such as those offered by www.pmi.org or www.prince2.org.uk
