Career Services Policies

Career Services provides recruiting services to employers who offer legitimate employment opportunities to students/alumni of Trinity University. However, Career Services reserves the right to refuse to provide such services if, in the sole opinion of Career Services, it appears that the employer is engaged in activities which may be interpreted as exploitative of our students/alumni.

Career Services will review all factors presented in making a determination about refusal to provide services to employers. Factors that may indicate that the employer is engaged in prohibited exploitation include:

  • Requirement that students/alumni pay a fee to the employer.
  • Requirement that students/alumni purchase products from the employer in order to be employed.
  • Legal status of students/alumni as independent contractors rather than employees.
  • Acquiring resumes to market jobseekers to prospective employers.
  • Other relevant factors which lead to an inference that the employer is engaged in a business which is premised on attracting employees for a short time, gaining short-term profits from their efforts and then terminating them.

The Director of Career Services will consider all information available, including information provided by the potential employer, as well as information gained from persons acquainted with the employer.

Cancellation of Campus/Recruiting Visits by Employers

Should you need to cancel your on-campus recruiting visit, information table, information session or resume drop, we ask for your courtesy in providing at least three business days’ notice.  While often cancellations are avoidable, we work hard to assist you in developing and maintaining a strong reputation on campus.  Last minute cancellations are an inconvenience for students and can damage your good reputation with our students.  Allowing us enough time to contact the interested students will allow us to better serve your needs.  Any employer who cancels or fails to show up for a campus recruiting commitment without notice may be barred from further participation in on-campus activities.

Recruitment of Trinity students and alumni for part-time or full-time positions require:

  • an up-to-date, detailed position announcement, including position requirements,
  • all full-time positions must require a bachelor degree in a major or area related to the programs we offer,
  • direct access to the employing organization (name of employer must be revealed), including a contact person name, title, address, phone, fax and web address, and
  • a comprehensive profile of the employing organization outlining products, services, etc should be sent to Career Services upon request.

Special note regarding internships:

In addition to the above requirements for listing part or full-time positions with our office, there is one additional requirement for listing an internship.  Unlike a part-time or full-time position, an internship requires there to be educational goals or objectives associated with the position.  Internships can be paid or unpaid, for academic credit or not, but regardless of the prior classifications, the internship must still have educational goals or objectives that are identified in the listing process.  Questions regarding this can be directed towards the Director of Career Services at 210/999-8321.

Notice to Third-Party Recruiters

Third party recruiting firms, or any such entity that is retained by another organization to recruit prospective employees, have limited access to the services of the office. Such recruiting firms are restricted from registering, posting job listings, or accessing resumes on eRecruiting and are prohibited from participating in the On-Campus Recruiting program.

Certain exceptions to the above limitations may be made if the requirements outlined in this policy statement are met and one of the following conditions is met:

  • The third-party recruiting firm is seeking to hire only permanent (non-contract) employees to work as staffing specialists, or in related administrative positions within the recruiting firm, or
  • The third-party recruiting firm is seeking to fill a specific job for a client organization and presents to Career Services a letter of verification from the client, on letterhead stationery, stating that the recruiting firm is acting as an agent for that organization.
