Career Services for Seniors

Get ready--During your senior year, we encourage you to prepare for employment or graduate/professional school in the following ways:

  • Start early in your senior year thinking about your plans for post graduation
  • Decide whether you are pursuing graduate education or employment Take the necessary exams for graduate/professional school
  • Participate in on-campus recruiting
  • Publish your resume to Career Services’ web resume book
  • Meet individually with a career adviser to make your individual plan for the future

Seeing a Career Adviser

  • Office Hours--Career Services is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday year-round, except on University holidays.

  • Walk-in Hours--Walk-in hours are available. Walk-in hours mean no appointment required, first-come, first seen. Students sign in and are seen in the order in which they've signed in. Currently walk-in hours are Monday - Friday from 1:30 - 4:00pm.

  •  Appointments--If you are unable to make walk-in hours, appointments can be made to meet with a career adviser regarding career options, resumes, cover letters, interviewing, job searches, etc.  Stop by Career Services (215 Coates University Center, above the Bookstore) or call (210) 999-8321 for details on available dates and times and to schedule an appointment. Appointments during evening hours are negotiable. At this time, appointments cannot be scheduled through e-mail.

Career Services hosts employers for On-Campus Recruiting (OCR) during the academic year. Students can apply for interviews for OCR through the TigerJobs system. The majority of our interviews are Pre-Select which mean that employers review students' resumes and cover letters in advance of their visit to campus and pre-select those they wish to interview. If you are accepted for an on-campus interview, you will be allowed to schedule yourself into an interview slot using TigerJobs. Dress for all on-campus interviews is business professional

Career Resources

TigerJobs is Career Services' web based recruiting system that  connects students and alumni to employers and career information.   TigerJobs allows you to:

  • Submit resumes and schedule interview times for employers participating in the campus recruiting program

  • View and apply for the latest job and internship listings

  • Create an online profile and upload resumes for employers to review

Vault Online Career Library provides PDF versions of Industry Overviews & Career Research Guidebooks including:

  • 2,500 Company Profiles

  • Employer Profiles, 50-pp. each (Goldman, McKinsey, etc)

  • 2,500+ Company Discussion Areas

  • 1,100 Vault Career Advice (covering 29 key categories)

  • 55 Occupation Profiles

You can use this data to identify and build a targeted contact list for potential employers

  • Learn more about a specific industry and key players in the industry

  • Gain a clearer idea about a company's culture and philosophies

  • Write complete and detailed cover letters

  • Enhance your interviewing skills with prospective employers with up to the date key information

ArtSEARCH --The job placement bulletin for the performing arts and arts administration, ArtSEARCH contains up to 800 ads online and 500 ads per bimonthly printed edition. ArtSEARCH has a readership of 40,000 and more than 2,000 arts institutions advertise annually. 

  • Theatres and performing arts centers, Summer festivals, Dance companies, Opera companies, Symphony orchestras, Museums, Arts councils and Universities, colleges and schools

After accessing the directory you want to view, either click to see company information by headquarters location (a “geographic view”), or click on the company/organization in which you're interested. The detailed information will appear.

DISCOVER® provides guidance and information to help people make important career and educational decisions. 

  • Research-based assessments of career-relevant interests, abilities, and job values help individuals consider career options that are a good match for them. ACT's World-of-Work Map organizes occupations into six clusters, parallel to Holland's Hexagon, to help users focus on preparing for career options that fit them best.
  • DISCOVER's comprehensive, developmental guidance process helps users identify their strengths and needs, make good career decisions, and build a plan based on their personal profiles.
  • The system offers complete, current databases of occupations, college majors, schools and training institutions, financial aid/scholarships, and military options.
