Diversity Programs

Welcome to THE place for multiculturalism and diversity initiatives on campus.  Although Trinity does not have an official multicultural center, Campus & Community Involvement is the headquarters for all your diversity needs.  We believe in:

  • expanding the mind by learning from, about and through your own and others’ cultural identities

  • supporting discussion and dialogue about current issues and trends regarding race, class, color, gender, religion, sexual orientation and ableism

  • giving back to the community in order to help make it more vibrant and giving care to one another, no matter what a person’s background

  • challenging one another respectfully - questions help us to understand the world around us and value those differences among us.

FACT OF THE WEEK:

Zoroastrianism is the ancient, pre-Islamic religion of Persia (modern Iran). It survives there in isolated areas but more prosperously in India, where the descendants of Zoroastrian Persian immigrants are known as Parsis, or Parsees.

Founded by the Iranian prophet and reformer Zoroaster in the 6th century BC, Zoroastrianism contains both monotheistic and dualistic features. Its concepts of one God, judgment, heaven and hell likely influenced the major Western religons of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. (from www.religionfacts.com)

Explore the world around you, learn about something new.  Try something different. Taste something different.  Walk in someone else’s shoes.  Walk in someone else’s clothes.  Dabble in a little bit of this and that.  Dabble in a little bit of this and that in another culture.   Keep up-to-date about the news.  Keep up-to-date about the news in other countries.  Listen with your eyes  and see with your ears.  Don’t be afraid of the new and different, look past the same and boring.  Laugh, dance, sing, and read and then do it again, only in another language.  Most importantly, remember, diversity is a journey not a destination.   There’s never going to be a time that we “achieve” diversity.  But don’t begrudge that fact, revel it.  And enjoy the journey
