1. Companies: Good Places to Start
- Company Websites
- Locate the company's main website by
using Google or Hoover's Online. Note that the main home page is
probably oriented toward consumers; look for links that point to
"investors' information" or "about us."
-
-
EDGAR
- U.S. SEC website of all required
company filings; look for the 10-K and 10-Q reports.
-
-
Hoover's
Online
- Good starting point for
company and industry information: company financials, major brands, top
competitors. Make sure you use this link to get to the premium content.
-
- Yahoo!
Finance
- Free web service has good overview of a
company and its financial data, competition, and industry.
-
2. Company and Industry Data Sources & Articles
-
Business
Source Complete
- Our best single periodical database for business
publications; good to use for articles related to company strategies,
weaknesses, environmental variables, and so on.
-
-
Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe
- An extensive full-text database which is
particularly strong in news and business trade publications. The
"Business" menu link takes the user to basic information found in
our other sources; I suggest using the "News" link and then choosing
"Business News Publications" under the Select Sources option.
-
-
ValueLine
- Evaluation tool for stock buying and selling;
contains useful summaries of a company's likely success in current and
planned markets. There are also cogent one-page industry analyses.
-
-
Standard
& Poor's NetAdvantage
- Eleven S&P databases include detailed company
information and excellent surveys of industries, which include
statistics, trends, comparative data, etc. For this second part,
make sure you click on the link within NetAdvantage for "Industry
Surveys."
-
-
Euromonitor Global Market Information Database
- Database of international market
research includes internationally comparable statistics on industries,
countries, and consumers; over 15,000 industry, company, country, and
consumer reports; articles on topical reactions to major news events;
and market and brand share information.
-
-
Regional
Business News
- Full-text articles from trade periodicals that
may not be covered by the large databases, e.g., San Antonio Business
Journal.
