Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) Services

Services

As the Counseling Services specialist for concerns related to alcohol and other drugs (AOD), I take a respectful and collaborative approach to working with any individual or group. I am not a law enforcement officer, so my focus is not on what is legal or illegal. Rather, my goals are to

help students make informed choices about AOD use
encourage harm reduction practices
among students who chose to engage in AOD use
employ a motivational approach to facilitate the process of positive change for students whose AOD use is problematic

The services I provide most often include:

Consulting with individual students about their AOD use. The information a student discloses during an appointment, even if it is about illegal behavior, remains confidential as required by law.
Advising friends who are concerned about the AOD use of another person
Providing AOD information that is as accurate and unbiased as possible
Surveying Trinity students regarding their AOD-related behaviors (in collaboration with statistician Dr. Diane Saphire and student advisors)
Providing referrals to treatment providers in the community.
