Disability Services for Students

Housing Accommodations Procedure

The learning environment and residential living are paramount to the Trinity University experience. Trinity is a residential campus with a three (3) year live-on requirement. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Fair Housing Act amended in 1988, Trinity University is dedicated to ensuring that students with disabilities have equal access to Trinity’s residence halls and all of the programs and services offered within them.

Students may request housing accommodations due to a disability by submitting their request to DSS. DSS will review requests and collaborate with the Residential Life Office to facilitate accommodations for students with disabilities who have specific housing needs. Note: Disability-related housing needs will take precedence over specific residence hall and/or roommate requests.

Student Responsibilities

  1. Adhere to all of the policies, procedures, and deadlines for applications set by Trinity’s Residential Life Office. To obtain more information regarding the housing application process, please contact the Residential Life Office at 210-999-7219 or reslife@trinity.edu.

  1. Register with DSS by following the appropriate procedures.

  1. Provide DSS with appropriate documentation validating the request for housing accommodations.

  1. Submit to DSS a letter which includes:

    1. The disability and date of diagnosis;
    2. A clear description of the requested accommodation(s); and
    3. An explanation of how the request directly relates to the impact of the disability.

DSS Responsibilities

  1. Verify that a student who requests housing accommodations is registered with DSS and eligible to receive this accommodation. Eligibility will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Through collaboration with the Residential Life Office, DSS will grant requests based upon the severity of the condition, availability of space, and the timeliness of the request.

  1. Once a decision is made, DSS will send a letter to the student and the Associate Director of Residential Life stating the decision and outlining the recommended accommodation(s), if applicable.
