Trinity University
Director of Athletics Bob King has announced the appointment of Allison
Lawrence as assistant coach of the Tigers’ volleyball team.
Lawrence replaces
April Fricke, who became the head volleyball coach of
Birmingham-Southern College. Birmingham-Southern and Trinity are members
of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Most recently,
Lawrence was an assistant coach at the University of La Verne (Calif.),
The Leopards advanced to the 2008 NCAA Division III championship match.
Lawrence also has been an assistant coach for Pomona-Pitzer College
(Calif.) and three outstanding youth club teams.
Lawrence was an
outside hitter – and four-year starter -- for the Oregon State
University Beavers, where she earned the Bachelor of Science degree in
2005, in liberal arts (philosophy). She was ranked in the Beavers’ top
five positions for career kills (1,268), and was on the top-10 list in
seven categories, on both offense and defense.
A team captain her
junior and senior years, Lawrence earned All-Pac 10 Honorable Mention
honors for four years. Lawrence also was elected to the All-PAC 10
Academic Teams four times. She was appointed a volunteer assistant coach
at Oregon State, before the 2005-06 season.
Lawrence earned the
Master of Arts in applied women’s studies for Claremont Graduate
University (Calif.) in 2008.
Trinity is led by
head coach Julie Jenkins, who completed her 24th year at the
Tigers’ helm.
“Allison
will be a great addition to our program,” coach Jenkins said. “Along
with having an impressive career as a player at Oregon State, she has
gained valuable coaching experience under three different collegiate
coaches. “
Trinity won its 15th
(and 11th consecutive) SCAC championship. The Tigers, who
completed the season with a 31-10 record, made their 17th
straight trip to the NCAA Division III playoffs. Trinity hosted the
regional tournament and advanced to the semifinals. |
