San Antonio -
Julie Jenkins celebrated the
start of her 25th year as head coach of the Tigers with two
victories Tuesday in Sams Gym.
The 12th-ranked
Tigers beat Mary Hardin-Baylor 3-0 (25-15, 25-7, 25-9) in the opener,
and then took out Schreiner 3-0 (26-24, 25-8, 25-21) in the second match
of the evening.
Senior outside
hitter Amy Mittelstaedt was the kill leader for both matches, picking up
11 and 10, respectively. Junior setter Cati Troyer was highly effective,
registering 29 assists against UMHB and 10 in the Schreiner match.
Troyer also fired in three aces against UMHB.
Junior defensive
specialist Emily Hilliard shared the lead in digs (nine) with first-year
defensive specialist Meredith Erwin against Mary Hardin-Baylor. Erwin
also had a team-high five aces. Hilliard picked up 11 digs against
Schreiner.
In the blocks
category, senior middle blocker Aly Hazelwood showed her mettle with
five against UMHB (as did Troyer) and four against Schreiner.
The Tigers will
host Concordia at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, then will welcome in four other
teams for the Trinity University River City Classic. Our Lady of
the Lake, California Lutheran, UT-Dallas, and Bridgewater will play in
the two-day tournament.
Trinity's first
road trip will be September 11-12 at California Lutheran University in
Thousand Oaks, California. |
