A scrappy Our Lady of the Lake
University team upset the Trinity Tigers 3-2 Friday in the opening match
of the Trinity River City Classic in Sams Gym.
Trinity (3-1),
ranked No. 12 in the NCAA Division III, won the first two games 25-23
and 25-21. The Saints, also from San Antonio, won three straight games
25-19, 25-16 15-12 in the two-hour match.
The Lake hit .205
in the match had the Tigers had a .197 mark. Trinity will take on
14th-ranked California Lutheran tonight at 7.
Tiger senior
outside hitter Amy Mittlestaedt led the contest with 21 kills and
sophomore middle blocker Maddy Hazelwood added 10. Hazelwood hit .571
(10 kills, 2 errors, 14 total attacks).
Junior setter
Caiti Troyer registered 46 assists and led the game in digs with 20.
Junior libero Adriene Busch fired in three service aces and senior
middle blocker Aly Hazelwood had four blocks.
The Saints Liza
Rodriguez had 11 kills and three aces. Kelsey Johnson and Jasmine Price
each had 10 kills. Elyse Escobar produced 20 assists, and . Norma Fraga
was the digs leader with 14. |
