Tigers Finish Tournament With Five-Set Win

San Antonio - The Tigers edged the Bridgewater College Eagles 3-2 Saturday in the final match of the Trinity River City Classic in Sams Gym.

Trinity (5-2) lost the opening set 25-27 and took the second 25-19. Bridgewater took the third 25-22 and the Tigers fought back to win the fourth 25-17. The fifth set went to the Tigers 15-13, as they finished the tournament with a 2-2 mark and a third-place finish.       

Junior setter Caiti Troyer registered 43 assists and 13 digs. She was elected to the All-Tournament Team.

Tayler Malloy, a junior right-side player led the team in kills with 13 and senior outside hitter Amy Mittelstaedt had 11. Mittelstaedt also led the Tigers in service aces, with three. First-year libero Meredith Erwin put in an impressive performance with 26 digs. Junior outside hitter Alexis Edwards had 14 digs.

Senior middle blocker Aly Hazelwood blocked six shots in the two-hour match.

The Tigers will compete in the California Lutheran Invitational next Friday and Saturday at Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Amy Mittelstaedt finished with 11 kills and a team-best three service aces as Trinity finished off its home tournament with a 3-2 win
