The 16th-ranked Trinity University
Tigers beat the No. 6 La Verne Leopards 25-13, 25-15, 25-19 Friday in
the opening match of the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational.
La Verne was the
runner-up at last year's NCAA Championships, held at Illionois Wesleyan.
Junior setter
Caiti Troyer registered 24 assists and 10 digs for the Tigers.
First-year defensive specialist Meredith Erwin fired in three aces, as
the entire team totaled 12. Erwin also had 12 digs.
Senior outside
hitter Amy Mittelstaedt, senior middle blocker Aly Hazelwood and junior
right-side player Tayler Malloy each accounted for eight kills.
Mittelstaedt was the digs leader with 14, and senior middle blocker
Ginger Haley produced three blocks.
Trinity (6-2) will
take on Pomona-Pitzer at 7 p.m. Central Time Friday at California
Lutheran University. |
