The 16th-ranked Trinity Tigers
volleyball team split the final-day matches Saturday at California
Lutheran’s Cal-Lu-fornia Invitational.
Trinity was edged
3-2 by Redlands in the opener and bounced back to beat Whitworth 3-2.
The Tigers now stand at 8-3 and went 3-1 at the tournament. Trinity
upset sixth-ranked La Verne – the NCAA Division III finalist – 3-0 and
then beat Pomona-Pitzer 3-1 on Friday.
In Saturday’s
see-saw Whitworth match, the Tigers won 23-25, 25-19, 24-26, 25-20,
15-9.
Junior setter
Caiti Troyer registered a career-high 54 assists. Senior middle blocker
Aly Hazelwood tied her season-high six blocks, and also made 15 kills.
Ginger Haley, a senior middle blocker, was the kills leader, with 18.
Senior outside hitter Amy Mittelstaedt made 17 digs and four blocks.
Junior defensive specialist Emily Hilliard had two aces and 10 digs.
Junior outside hitter Alexis Edwards produced 14 digs and furst0year
defensive specialist Meredith Erwin had 12.
Redlands won the
first two games 25-20 and 25-23. The Tigers took the next two 25-9 and
25-22, with the Bulldogs winning the fifth 15-9.
Troyer accounted
for 37 assists and a team-leading 19 digs. Mittelstaedt had 14 kills and
12 digs. Erwin led in aces with two, and also put up 16 digs. Hazelwood
recorded three blocks.
Trinity will host the SCAC
West-Central Tournament next Friday and Saturday. |
