Trinity Falls Short Against Hosting Colorado College

Colorado Springs, Colorado - The host Colorado College Tigers, ranked No. 14 in the nation, beat the 15th-ranked Trinity Tigers 25-23, 25-23, 20-25, 25-23 Saturday at the second Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference East-West Tournament.

Trinity, which went 2-2 at the two-day tournament, now stands at 21-8 overall and 11-4 SCAC. The Tigers shut out Oglethorpe 3-0 earlier in the day.

Tiger senior middle blocker Aly Hazelwood and junior right-side player Tayler Malloy shared the lead in kills, with nine each. Hazelwood also had seven blocks, and Malloy made four. Junior setter Caiti Troyer registered 37 assists and 12 digs.

Junior defensive specialist Emily Hilliard was the digs leader, with 13. Senior middle blocker Ginger Haley led Trinity in blocks, with eight, while contributing seven kills.  Senior outside hitter Amy Mittelstaedt fired in a team-best three service aces.

Junior defensive specialist Alexis Edwards had 11 digs, and first-year outside hitter Madison McMahon made eight kills.

The Tigers will host two upcoming tournaments, starting with the Trinity Fall Classic next Friday and Saturday. The Trinity National Invitational will be held in the Bell Athletic Center Oct. 30-31. Trinity defends its conference title Nov. 6-7 at the SCAC Championship in Atlanta.

Aly Hazelwood tied for the team lead with nine kills and also added seven blocks in Saturday's loss against Colorado College
