- The 18th-ranked Trinity
Tigers volleyball team gave a good fight, but No. 1 Juniata prevailed as
the Eagles won 25-15, 25-23, 25-23 Friday in the opening match of the
Trinity National Invitational in Sams Gym.
Trinity, which now
stands at 24-9, will take on No. 2 Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 12:30 p.m.
Saturday, followed by a 5:30 p.m. match with eighth-ranked Wittenberg.
Saturday’s second
match will close out the Tigers’ regular-season campaign, and will be
the final home contest for three seniors: middle blocker Ginger Haley,
outside hitter Amy Mittelstaedt. and middle blocker Aly Hazelwood.
Hazelwood led the
match with 12 kills and three blocks. She needs five more blocks to move
up to No. 2 in the all-time Trinity all-time career list.
Junior setter
Caiti Troyer amassed 29 assists and six digs. Alexis Edwards, a junior
defensive specialist, was the Tigers’ digs leader, with nine.
Mittelstaedt fired in two aces for the Tiger lead, along with eight
digs. Haley hit.462 in the match (6 kills, 0 errors, 13 total attacks).
