Tiger Volleyball Opens SCAC Tournament With Comeback Win

San Antonio - The fourth-seeded Trinity Tigers rallied from a 1-2 deficit to defeat the No. 5 Austin College Kangaroos 25-11, 20-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-10 Friday in the opening of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament at Oglethorpe University.

Trinity (26-10), the defending SCAC champion, ranked No. 17 nationally, meets the winner of top-seeded Southwestern (ranked No. 12) and Rhodes at 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

The Tigers, who beat Austin College 3-0 last October, were paced by junior setter Caiti Troyer, who registered 50 assists and 22 digs. Junior right-side player Tayler Malloy led in kills, with 14, and senior middle blocker Ginger Haley added 13. Senior middle blocker Aly Hazelwood accounted for three blocks in the match.

The tournament concludes Saturday night, with the champion earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Caiti Troyer led the Tigers with 50 assists and 22 digs on Friday, pushing the team to tomorrow's SCAC Semifinals
