Aly Hazelwood, a
senior middle blocker from Baytown, Texas (Barbers Hill), has been named
the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Co-Volleyball Player of the
Week, marking the second time this season that she has received the SCAC
honor.
Last weekend at the
Trinity National Invitational – featuring the top Division III teams in
the nation – Hazelwood totaled 31 kills (2.82 per set) and recorded a
hitting percentage of .285 (six errors, 65 total attacks). Hazelwood,
chosen for the All-Tournament Team, tied the team lead with three
service aces and 11 blocks in the three matches.
Hazelwood led the
match against No. 1 Juniata with 12 kills and three blocks, then had
four blocks and seven kills against second-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
The Tigers then
closed out the regular season with a 3-2 victory over eighth-ranked
Wittenberg. Hazelwood hit .417 (12 kills, two errors and 24 total
attacks) and led the team with three service aces. She also recorded
four blocks to move into second place on the all-time Trinity career
list, with 493.
Trinity (25-10, 11-4
SCAC), the defending conference champion, travels to Atlanta for the
SCAC Championship Tournament Friday and Saturday at Oglethorpe
University. The Tigers will face Austin College in the opening round of
the tournament. The tournament winner receives an automatic bid to the
NCAA playoffs. |
