Admission Information

TRINITY STUDENTS (POST BACCALAUREATES)

Alumni of Trinity University are encouraged to apply to the Master of Arts in Teaching program. If accepted, students will return to Trinity to complete three semesters of graduate study. Beginning in the summer, candidates complete graduate-level courses in curriculum development and teaching pedagogy. During the academic school year, all students will be paired with a mentor teacher in one of the the department's Professional Development Schools (PDS) in the San Antonio area or in a school of your choosing. Candidates complete a near-full time, year-long teaching internship under the guidance of your mentor teacher in their intended area of certification.

Applicants are encouraged to contact a member of the department faculty to discuss the program before submitting an application.

Admission is based on the following criteria:

  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 minimum (2.6 provisional) on the last 60 hours of coursework.
  3. Passing score on the Texas Higher Education Assessment or evidence of exemption.
  4. College level computer science proficiency as demonstrated by coursework or experience.
  5. A 3-semester-hour course in human growth and development.
  6. Faculty recommendations.
  7. A pre-field practicum experience or significant classroom experience.
  8. An interview with the chair of the Education Department, Dr. Paul Kelleher.
  9. An interview with a clinical faculty member.
  10. Completed application to the Teacher Education Program at Trinity University. Download Application to Teacher Education
