Fingerprinting & Required Background Check

Digital Fingerprinting

Since 2003, new applicants for educator credentials have been required to submit fingerprints to SBEC so that a national criminal background check can be conducted by the FBI. As of January 2008, Texas Senate Bill 9 requires all school personnel to be fingerprinted and clear a background check. Texas has entered into a contract with a private vendor (L1-ID Services) to provide a digital fingerprinting service to those individuals that require fingerprinting for licensing purposes. The program is known as Fingerprint Applicant Services of Texas (FAST).

In order to be fingerprinted, first you must register with SBEC and pay the $47 fingerprinting fee. This step is completed online from your SBEC user profile. Before registering to be fingerprinted, you must already have applied for teacher certification.  After you have completed this step, you will receive an email containing your FAST Pass number. Save this email because you will need its contents in the future.  Next, go on-line to schedule an appointment to be fingerprinted

The closest fingerprinting facility to the Trinity campus is located at the Education Service Center - Region 20, 1314 Hines Avenue in San Antonio, TX 78208; Phone: 210.370.5200. At Region 20, the digital fingerprinting service is available M-F (8:15 AM - 4:30 PM).  Be advised, you must pay the processing fee of $9.95 by check or money order at the time of testing.  You should receive electronic results in 3-5 days.

Be advised, currently enrolled M.A.T. interns should be fingerprinted no later than March 15, 2009 in order to ensure the completion of this requirement in a timely fashion.
