Certification, Placement & Continuing Education Programs

Graduates of Trinity University's Teacher Education Program are certified to teach in the State of Texas. In addition, Trinity's Program in Teacher Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and graduates who wish to obtain certification in other states benefit from this association. If you have questions about transferring your teaching certification, please contact the Certification Specialist.

The Department of Education prides itself on assisting 100% of its graduates to obtain teaching positions immediately upon graduation. There are additional career resources for alumni.

Understanding By Design (UbD) is an example of one of the many continuing education opportunity offered by Trinity University. This Summer Curriculum Writing Institute provides M.A.T. graduates completing their first and second years of teaching with a wealth of support and resources to take back to their classrooms. The novice teachers spend a week studying a curriculum framework called "Understanding By Design." Following this framework, the new teachers each wrote a unit for teaching in the following year. If you would like to review the database of UbD units, click here. Please contact the program's founder, Dr. Laura Allen, for additional information.

Teachers As Scholars represents both a new vision of professional development and an innovative collaboration between college and university faculty and public school teachers. Through the program, K – 12 teachers participate in small one- or two-day seminars led by leading Trinity University professors in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences and are thus connected to the world of scholarship — one reason many of them became teachers in the first place. Who is eligible: Any teacher employed by a public school system belonging to Trinity University’s Center for Educational Leadership is eligible to participate. This includes all districts in Bexar County and the New Braunfels and Comal Independent School districts.  There is NO COST for attending the sessions.  For each session attended, participants will receive 6 continuing professional education (CPE) hours. Alumni are encouraged to take advantage of this excellent Continuing Professional Education opportunity on the Trinity campus!

For seminars with limited enrollment, registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.  For additional information about the program or to register for a session, call (210) 999-7583 or email TAS@trinity.edu.
