The Master of Arts in Teaching
Sources that Recommend Trinity's M.A.T. Program
The 5-year teacher education program has received national attention since its inception:
- In December of 1991, The Wall Street Journal featured our program in a front page, column one piece entitled: "Making the Grade Teacher Quality Rises With Improved Pay, Concern for Schools." The article underscored Trinity's success in recruiting able students to teach education, and our commitment to develop partnerships with selected public schools and working side-by-side with outstanding practitioners from the classrooms.
- The George Lucas Education Foundation
The Foundation highlighted Trinity among select teacher education programs across the country. It includes a summary of the teacher education programs that Trinity University offers at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- National Commission for Teaching and America's Future
The Report of the National Commission on Teaching & America's Future was published in September, 1996. The report, What Matters Most: Teaching for America's Future, painted a negative picture of the teacher education in the United States, and in Texas in particular. The bright spot was the 5-year teacher education program at Trinity University, and the commission included a brief description of the program, Trinity University: A Case of Teacher Education Reform (pg. 90).
- A few master's programs prepare teachers for work in urban schools
This article in U.S. News and World Report, under their Best Graduate Schools 2001 section, describes how certain teacher education programs prepare future teachers for working in inner city schools. The M.A.T. program at Trinity University is one of the programs mentioned.
