The members of the Basic School Center are committed to sharing "best practice" from the research as it leads to a holistic school renewal process. Through the study, practice, and sharing of the ideas of The Basic School, the members of the Center hope to expand the awareness of these ideas in the school community and to maintain the integrity of its implementation in the schools which are interested in the Basic School Framework.
Why is it called "basic"?
"The school is 'basic' for several reasons. First, it takes the push for school renewal back to the beginning - to the neighborhood school and to the first years of formal learning. Second, it is called 'basic' because it gives priority to language and to a core of essential knowledge. Finally, the school is 'basic' because it identifies practices that really work and seeks to make them available to every child."
