Who is eligible for Upward Bound? Participants must meet the following criteria:
- Qualify as low income according to federal guidelines or potential first-generation college students with neither parent having earned a four year bachelor’s degree http://www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ope/trio/incomelevels.html?exp=0
- Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident
- Be an incoming ninth or tenth grade student at Harlandale, McCollum, Memorial, or Kennedy.
- Demonstrate academic need for program services
- Have the willingness and ability to make the time commitment to participate fully in all that Upward Bound offers from the time of acceptance through high school graduation
How much does the program cost?
All Upward Bound services are free of charge to participants through funding from the U.S. Department of Education. The U.S. Department of Education provides 100% of the cost of the Upward Bound program in the amount of $367,825.00 per academic year.
Can I participate in only the academic component or summer component?
All Upward Bound participants are required to attend both the academic component and six-week summer component. Failure to attend either component may jeopardize placement in program.
How can I apply for the Upward Bound program?
Contact the Upward Bound office by email at simone.carnegie@trinity.edu or 210.999.7590 to discuss your interest in the program and receive an application. New participants are generally accepted during September of each school year. However, students can apply at anytime and be put on a waiting list until space becomes available.
How is the Upward Bound program funded?
The U.S. Department of Education provides 100% of the cost of the Upward Bound program in the amount of $357,126.00 per academic year.
