"I
find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand,
as in what direction we are moving: To reach the port of heaven,
we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it, but
we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor."
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.

Upward
Bound provides academic and personal support to participants in their
preparation for college through funding from the U.S. Department of Education.
The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their high
school academics and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward
Bound serves 75 high school students from low-income families and students from
families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. All participants
are enrolled at Harlandale, McCollum, Memorial, or Kennedy in San Antonio, Texas. The goal ofUpward
Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete high school and graduate
from college or university.
Today,
there are over 750 Upward Bound programs across the United States. The Trinity
University Upward Bound program was established in the fall of 1980 and today
continues an over 25-year history of serving San Antonio students.
