Gifted and Talented

Gifted and TalentedThe Center for Educational Leadership again offered two workshops for area gifted and talented teachers and administrators. In November, an audience of more than 200 heard Karen L. Westberg discuss Meeting Students' Academic NeedsThrough Differentiated Instruction. Dr. Westberg is chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and also associate professor in the Gifted, Creative and Talented Education Program at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota.

In February, Del Siegle, associate professor of educational psychology in the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut, addressed an audience of 188 on Making a Difference: Strategies to Reverse Underachievement.

The GT Consortium offers these workshops annually to address the educational needs of GT students, thereby better equipping teachers to utilize appropriate curriculum and strategies, and enhancing their knowledge of current research and thinking about giftedness.

Next year's speakers will be Dr. Bonnie Cramond of the University of Georgia, and Dr. Bertie Kingore of Austin, Texas.
