The Superintendents' Forum is a monthly opportunity for school district leaders to meet and share perspectives and information as well as to discuss mutual problems. Topics for superintendent discussion typically include school finance updates, testing and accountability mandates, and current controversies. Superintendents also hear from Trinity faculty, local business and community leaders, state and local officials, and others about relevant and timely issues.
During this past year, 15 or more superintendents gathered over lunch at Trinity each month to listen to presentations from community leaders and participate in discussions with them. During the past year, Superintendents' Forum guests included:
-
Nelson Wolff, Bexar County Judge
-
Richard Butler, Professor of Economics at Trinity, and former chair of the board of directors of the Alamo Area Academies
-
State Representative Mike Villarreal
-
Barbara Gentry, USAA Vice-President for Community Affairs
-
Criss Cloudt, Accountability and Data Quality, TEA
Topics for discussion this past year included work force preparation and business community efforts to support local public schools.
The Forum has proven to be an excellent place for informal give-and-take among superintendents and with community leaders. We plan to expand these opportunities next year.
