PROGRAM ALUMNI

ALUMNI WEEKEND 2007: Program alumni and those interested in learning more about graduate study in the department of educaiton are invited to attend a wine and cheese reception on Friday, October 19, 2007 from 4:00 - 5:30 PM (Storch Memorial Hall, 2nd Floor). All are invited to attend this informal reception to catch up with old friends and make new ones!

CONTINUING EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY: Alumni are invited to particiate in an exciting suite of continuing education opportunities this fall at Trinity.  Teachers As Scholars represents both a new vision of professional development and an innovative collaboration between college and university faculty and public school teachers. Through the program, K – 12 teachers participate in small one- or two-day seminars led by leading Trinity University professors in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences and are thus connected to the world of scholarship — one reason many of them became teachers in the first place. Who is eligible: Any teacher employed by a public school system belonging to Trinity University’s Center for Educational Leadership is eligible to participate. This includes all districts in Bexar County and the New Braunfels and Comal Independent School districts.  There is NO COST for attending the sessions.  For each session attended, participants will receive 6 continuing professional education (CPE) hours.

For seminars with limited enrollment, registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.  For additional information about the program or to register for a session, contact Catherine Morell Nickle at (210) 999-7583 or email TAS@trinity.edu.

OTHER NEWS

2006 marked the 15th Anniversary of the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Trinity University. To help commemorate this milestone, the Department of Education planned an afternoon of events to celebrate and reflect on the M.A.T. program as well as to reconnect with Trinity colleagues.

Alumni Alumni Panel

The half-day event began with a luncheon, celebrating the Alumni of the M.A.T. program. Included in that luncheon was a video retrospective, including interviews with former and current faculty, photos of Alumni, and quotes from the Alumni survey. To view the video...

Distinguished GuestsImmediately following the luncheon, guest participated in an "Excellence in Teacher Education" Symposium. A panel of Trinity graduates including Dory Lopez Lightfoot (MAT 1992), Tim Miller (MAT 1994), Amada Rudolph (MAT 1996), Kristin Garot (MAT 1997), Terra Tiller (MAT 2004) shared with the audience their experiences and opinions about teacher education and teaching.

To respond to our panel and bring corporate, civic, legislative, and educational perspectives, we were honored that the following distinguished guests served as respondents:

  • Mr. Charles Butt - Chairman and CEO of HEB
  • Ms. Vanessa Hurd - Partner, The New Teacher Project
  • Dr. Adrain Johnson - Associate Commissioner for School District Services, Texas Education Agency
  • Dr. Richard Middleton - Superintendent, North East Independent School District
  • Representative Michael Villarreal - State Representative, District 123

In an effort to reconnect Alumni and establish a network of colleagues, we have created a listserv that is available to all MAT graduates. To join the listserv, send an e-mail to Lisa Jasinski. Feel free to write in questions or suggestions - just know that everyone on the listserv will see it! To talk to the whole group, send an e-mail to matgrads@lyris.its.trinity.edu.
