COURSE NUMBERING

EXPLANATION OF COURSE NUMBERS

Course numbers at Trinity University consist of four digits. The first digit indicates the level of the course: 1 or 2 designates lower division, 3 or 4 designates upper division, 5 or 6 designates graduate level. The second digit indicates the value of the course in semester hours (credit hours). The third and fourth

digits identify specific courses within the subject area.

Thus, a course numbered 1320 would be defined as follows:

                                          1                                   3                                   20

(lower division)            (3 credit hours)            (specific course)

Faculty advisors or personnel in the Registrar’s Office can assist with explanation of course number meanings.
