Active Students  

  • Seniors Amanda Hargrove and Barbara McClain won prestigious Goldwater Scholarships in 2003, in support of outstanding students planning a career in the sciences.  Fourteen Trinity students have received Goldwater Scholarships in the past nine years. 
  • At a 2003 regional Latin American Studies Symposium for undergraduates, Brian Birdwell '03 screened his documentary that focused on the Texas "English only" law and its impact on children in the school system.
  • Every semester several Trinity students participate in an internship program organized by Trinity political science professor John Hermann at the Fifth Circuit Federal Court.
  • Over forty percent of Trinity students study abroad at some time during their college career.  In the past three years students have studied in over 45 countries.
  • The Student Managed Fund gives students the opportunity to manage real money--$500,000 per year--in financial markets, bridging the gap between financial theory and real-world applications. 
  • 500 students participate in more than a dozen music ensembles.

Accomplished Faculty

  • In spring of 2003, chemistry professors brought more than a half million dollars in grants for student research to the university.  The chemistry program is ranked as one of the top five undergraduate research programs in the nation, with twenty to forty students spending their summers in the lab and a large number of them co-authoring articles published in leading academic journals.
  • Faculty from the Departments of Ancient Mediterranean Studies and Sociology and Anthropology manage archeological sites in Tunisia, Turkey and Mexico, in which Trinity students work annually.
  • English professor Norman Sherry's book The Life of Graham Greene: Volume 2 was an international best seller and the New York Times Book Review listed the biography as one of the top 100 books of the 20th century.
  • After serving in NASA's Apollo Space Program, computer science professor Gerald Pitts has published over 120 publications on virtual reality modeling.  A number of students aid Pitts in his research, including several first year students each year.

 Technology

  • The entire campus supports wireless technology and is also completely connected through T3 internet connections. 
  • Trinity's student web portal allows easy access to class registration, course information,  departmental updates, and information from clubs and organizations.
  • The GIS, Geographical Information System, which constructs detailed demographic maps reflecting the intersection of information, demographics and geology used in a variety of disciplines, may be accessed by students in the residence halls and from any computer on campus.
  • By 2004 over half of the classrooms will be electronic, and some of the most technologically advanced classrooms in the country.
  • The Coates Library houses the Instructional Media Services (IMS), which features $400,000 in the latest multi-media learning equipment, and the Information Commons, including the latest digital research technology, wireless connectivity as well as a coffee bar.

Athletics

  • Top 4 national ranking in Division III Intercollegiate Athletics in 2003
  • Women's basketball won the NCAA Division III national championship in 2002-03.
  • Four other teams qualified for the NCAA Final Four in 2002-03:  football, men's soccer, women's soccer, and volleyball.  Trinity became the only school--in any division in history--to have those four teams make the Final Four. 
  • 171 Trinity student athletes qualified for the SCAC Honor Roll in the past year (3.25 GPA is required).

Outcomes

  • Top 10 nationally among similar schools for number of Ph.D. bound alumni
  • One of the leading providers of Peace Corps volunteers in the Southwest 

Excellent Job Placement

  • The five-year Masters program in Education boasts a 100% job placement rate.
  • 90% of graduates from the Masters program in Accounting are offered jobs with one of the big four accounting firms.
