The High School Record
The classes you take, the numbers of honors and Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes (and in some cases, co-curricular college programs), class rank, grade point average, and diversity of curriculum all are important considerations. Eighty percent of last year's accepted students were in the top twenty percent of their classes in high school. The Office of Admissions will recalculate your GPA using its own scale in order to compensate for discrepancies in grading scales among different high schools. Additionally, class rank may not apply due to your particular high school.
Standardized Test Scores
Trinity will accept scores from either the SAT I or the ACT (excepting foreign students not educated in U.S. model schools). Although we do not have minimum scores, the middle 50% of last year's accepted class had composite SAT I scores that fell between
1220 and 1370, with a median score of 1298. On the ACT, the middle 50% ranged from approximately 27 to 31, with a median score of 29. The best math and best verbal scores on the SAT I will be used, even if they are from two different test dates. SAT II examinations are not required for admission purposes..
The same practice is used in evaluation of the ACT - high scores from the four sections (English, Math, Reading, and Science Reasoning) of different tests will be used for an overall composite score.
Essay
We carefully read the essay portion of each application we receive. Your essay is an opportunity to show us that you can write effectively in terms of structure, grammar, and punctuation, while also allowing us a glimpse into your unique style and experiences. Please answer the essay question as completely as possible, taking time to carefully craft an accurate sample of your writing.
Extracurricular Activities
Trinity is a place where you will take advantage of the opportunities we offer and you are encouraged to be involved on campus. The students here are active because they were active in high school. Leadership, long-term commitment, and genuine concern are key; quality is more important than quantity.
Please include any information on activities that are related to school, community, or church, part or full-time jobs, and accomplishments and awards that you have won.
Teacher and Counselor Recommendations
The recommendations from your high school counselor and academic teacher are important criteria in the admissions process, as they provide a picture of you as a person and scholar. Get to know those people who will write on your behalf, as their comments are valuable to the staff in completing the overall "picture."
Campus Visits
Although not formally a part of the admission process, you are strongly encouraged to visit Trinity if at all possible. Not only will you get a chance to make an in-person impression upon a member of the admissions staff, but you will also get a chance to see the place for yourself, a step that is of utmost importance in choosing a college. Please look into more information on Visiting Trinity. |
