OFF-CAMPUS DIVERSIONS
While Trinity's hilltop campus is in a quiet residential neighborhood, the magnificent views of the San Antonio skyline are a reminder that there are a multitude of opportunities just beyond the boundaries of the University. America's eighth largest city combines old world traditions steeped in history with a vibrant multicultural community, all in a modern cosmopolitan setting. And despite its size and abundance of business and cultural institutions, San Antonio retains a friendly, unhurried, organic, small town feel.
The city was founded in 1718 with the building of Mission San Antonio de Valero, better known as the Alamo. Today, you can still visit the Alamo, along with the seven other mission churches that make up the celebrated San Antonio Missions National Historic Park. The San Antonio Botanical Gardens, the Witte Museum, and the San Antonio Museum of Art, are just some of the city's other cultural attractions. Additionally, Trinity students have the added bonus of free access to San Antonio Symphony performances in the beautifully restored Majestic Theatre.
If shopping and entertainment are to your liking, you'll want to visit the Paseo del Rio—the Riverwalk. Originally built as a WPA project in 1939, the Riverwalk's festive atmosphere now features three miles of cobblestone paths lined with cafes, clubs, restaurants and boutiques. Then there are the local spots strictly for fun: Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, the Guinness World Record Museum, and more.
In addition to great cultural and entertainment opportunities, the area's 300 plus days of sunshine per year and average temperature of 68.8 degrees lends itself to a world of outdoor sports. The surrounding Texas Hill Country provides great locales for hiking, fishing, boating, camping, and horseback riding. Local spectator sports include the American Hockey League's San Antonio Rampage, the WNBA Silver Stars basketball team, the San Antonio Missions minor league baseball team, and of course, three-time NBA champions, our San Antonio Spurs.
