Application Overview
Because Trinity uses the Common Application, applying to the university is a relatively simple process for new students. The Common Application is used by over 250 selective universities nation-wide for admission to their undergraduate and transfer programs. You may register on line to set up a free, secure, personal account, which will enable you to save data and submit your application on line. All other necessary documents for admission are also available online on this site, including recommendation forms. If you do not wish to submit your application on line, printable PDF application forms, which can be filled out and mailed to the Office of Admissions, are also available. However, there is a $50 application processing fee required for paper applications, whereas applications submitted on line are free of charge.
The Office of Admissions will send you an email confirming receipt of your application. You will also receive a letter indicating the documents still needed to complete your file. It sometimes takes several days to process all the forms we receive, so please do not be alarmed if you receive notification of missing documents that have already been submitted. When your application file is complete it will be sent to the Admissions Committee for review. At this time you will be sent another letter informing you when you will be notified of your admissions decision.
Application Required Documents and Information
- Common Application
Available at www.commonapp.org. The essay/personal statement, supplement, and extracurricular activity listing can be filled out as a part of the application or can be sent directly to Trinity. The Common Application is not the same as the Texas Common Application used for Texas public colleges and universities. - Official High School Transcript or GED Certificate
- Official SAT I or ACT results
Scores must be received directly from the testing service or included as part of an official high school transcript. Trinity will use your highest subtest scores from different testing dates to generate your highest composite score. ACT writing exam is not required of those only submitting ACT results. - Teacher Evaluation
Must be submitted from a teacher in an academic subject and is available (along with the Secondary School Report) here. - Secondary School Report
Must be filled out by your high school counselor and is available (along with the Teacher Evaluation) here. - Senior Year Course List
Can be submitted as a part of the Secondary School Report, on your Official High School Transcript or as a separate document. - Application Fee
On line application submissions have no fee. Paper applications have a $50 processing fee by check or money order only, payable to Trinity University. - Official College/University Transcript(s) (if applicable)
Official transcripts are requested from each college/university you attended. Transcripts must be mailed directly to Trinity by the other institution if transfer credit is desired.
Application Deadlines
Several deadline dates are available for first year candidates. In order to be considered for a particular deadline, an application must be complete, with all necessary documents, including test scores and recommendations, postmarked by the date listed below.
| Application | Notification | Deposit | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early Decision | November 1 | December 1 | February 1 |
| Early Action | December 1 | February 1 | May 1 |
| Regular Decision | February 1 | April 1 | May 1 |
Early Decision
The Early Decision program is designed for students who know Trinity is their first-choice school, and who commit to enroll if admitted. This program is a binding agreement. Students are ethically bound to apply Early Decision to only one school, and will be expected to attend if offered admission. Applications must be postmarked by November 1 of the senior year for admission for the fall semester. Admission decisions are mailed on December 15, and students must submit a non-refundable $500 deposit by February 1 to hold a place in the class.
Early Action
Early Action is for students who wish to receive early notification of their admissions status, but who don't want a binding agreement to attend Trinity. Early Action applications must be postmarked by December 1, and students are notified of admission decisions by December 15. Students admitted under Early Action have until May 1 to submit their $500 deposit or decline their offer of admission.
Regular Decision
Regular Decision applications must be postmarked by February 1, and students will be notified by April 1 of their status. These students must submit their $500 deposit or decline their offer of admission by May 1.
Please make note of and adhere to these filing deadlines as you proceed through the admissions process. We can only respond to you in a timely manner if we have all of your information on time. In all cases, the aforementioned $500 deposit is used to reserve your spot in the class and in the residence hall. Also note that May 1 is a nation-wide common reply date; every school must give you at least until then to make up your mind (unless you apply through an Early Decision program).
The Financial Aid process is designed to run concurrently with the admissions process. Become familiar with Financial Aid application deadlines and filing procedures by browsing the Financial Aid site.
