Transfer and Non-Traditional Student Information

Transfer Students

Trinity University welcomes applications from transfer students with past records that demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement. Admission to Trinity is highly selective. Most admitted transfer students show a minimum cumulative college grade point average of 3.0 or higher (based on 4.0 scale) in full-time coursework. A higher grade point average is desirable if a student has been attending classes part-time or has taken less than four academic courses per semester. Trinity will accept a maximum of 64 transfer credit hours.

Transfer students who have been asked to leave their prior college due to low grades, academic probation, or scholastic withdrawal are rarely admitted to Trinity; the University does not admit students on an academic probation basis.

Trinity classes are held Monday through Friday, during working hours; few night classes are offered. It is not possible for an undergraduate student to obtain a degree from Trinity through the attendance of evening classes only.

Transfer Applications
In addition to the Transfer Admission Application, transfer applicants must submit the following documents:

  • Transfer Application
Including personal essay and activity and work sections.
  • Application Fee ($50)
  • Official high school transcript or GED certificate
High school transcript must show graduation date.
  • Official SAT I or ACT results
Scores must be received directly from the testing service or included as part of an official high school transcript. Trinity will use your highest subtest scores from different testing dates to generate your highest composite score. SAT I or ACT scores are not required for students who have been out of high school for more than five years.
  • Faculty or Advisor Evaluation
  • Student Affairs Administrator Evaluation
Must be completed by a student affairs administrator or equivalent from the last college/university attended.
  • Official College/University Transcript(s)
Official transcripts are required from each college/university attended. Transcripts must be mailed directly to Trinity by the other institution. Hand-carried transcripts will not be accepted.

Transfer applicants may apply for either the fall or spring semester of the academic year.  Application deadlines are as follows:

     Spring 2005: October 15, 2004 (notification: December 1)
     Fall 2005: March 1, 2005
(notification: April 1)

Financial Aid
Financial aid is limited to grants, loans, and work-study. Merit scholarships are not available to transfer students. Trinity requires applicants for need-based financial aid to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The student will be notified if additional forms are required. The approximate comprehensive cost (including tuition, room, board, books, fees, etc.) for the 2004-2005 academic year is $30,300.

For more information, visit the Office of Financial Aid website, email financialaid@trinity.edu, or call 210-999-8315.

Housing
All Trinity students are required to live on campus until their senior year (minimum 88 credit hours). Waiver of the on-campus residency policy may be granted to non-seniors who are married, have children (Trinity does not provide family housing) or beyond traditional college age (over 22 years old).

Non-Traditional Students
While most Trinity students are of traditional college age and attend classes full-time, we have a small contingent of non-traditional students returning after a long absence from school or attending part-time. We recommend that this type of student apply after completing at least two semesters of full-time work at another college, with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0. Non-traditional students who have never attended college must meet the minimum high school curriculum requirements.

Trinity classes are held Monday through Friday, during working hours; few night classes are offered. It is not possible for an undergraduate student to obtain a degree from Trinity through the attendance of evening classes only.

To receive details on application requirements and documents, please contact the Office of Admissions at (800) TRINITY or 210-999-7207) or email admissions@trinity.edu.

Costs and Financial Aid
Because most non-traditional students are not housed on campus, costs at Trinity would include only tuition, fees, and recommended stipend for books and fees. The financial aid application process is similar to that for students in the traditional college-age bracket, with the exception that parental income will not be a factor for married students or those students over 24 years of age. If you have been working for a number of years, we strongly encourage you to check with your employer about any programs to help defray costs. Government financial aid is only available to full-time students (those registered for more than 12 credit hours per semester).
Approximate costs for the 2004-2005 academic year are based on full-time enrollment. Part-time enrollment cost is calculated using the per credit hour rate ($833.75).  Visit the Office of Financial Aid website for detailed cost information.
